Will I have to leave my baby alone to cry?
No! I respect your views and comfort level and will never persuade you to do something you don’t want to do. There are a variety of sleep training methods, and my Family Intake Form helps me determine the best method for your unique needs.
However, we will make changes to your child’s sleep patterns and habits, and small children do not understand (or like!) change. There will be protesting and likely some tears, but you can stay with your baby every step of the way or give them space. It’s totally up to you.
What sleep training philosophy do you follow?
WILL I NEED TO WEAN MY BABY FROM FEEDING AT NIGHT
Nope! We will go over your night time feeding schedule on your Intake Form and again when we have our consultation. Babies grow so much in their first year of life, so I am 100 percent in favor of continuing night feeds as long as the parents are comfortable. That said, it’s important we find a balance between consolidated sleep AND meeting your baby’s nutritional needs. If you are ready to cut out night feeds, I can help you do this, too.
WHAT IS A GOOD AGE TO BEGIN SLEEP TRAINING?
It’s biologically appropriate to formally being sleep training when babies are 16 weeks old (adjusted age). Why? Because at this age, your baby’s circadian rhythms are forming, they can sleep longer stretches during the night, and they are little masters at following cues and signals. Parents can start working on establishing healthy sleep foundations from day one and may find they have to do little, if any, sleep training down the road. My Newborn Sleep Guide [link to sleep guide] can help you establish that healthy foundation.
CAN’T I GET THIS ADVICE FROM A BOOK? WHY SHOULD I HIRE A SLEEP CONSULTANT?
Yes, you sure can. There is an unlimited amount of resources circulating the web regarding infant and child sleep. There is also a ton of great books and articles out there. However, there is also a ton of not so great books and articles.
Researching, creating, and putting into action a sleep plan can be overwhelming for any family, let alone a sleep deprived one. By hiring a Sleep Coach, you will receive a customized plan based on your preferred sleep training method, goals, values and comfort level. Additionally, you’ll get ongoing support, which is something a book cannot provide.
